Fencing timber for a new-build garden
New-build plots often come with a low or temporary boundary and bare ground. If you're adding height, privacy or beds, here's what to think about first.
Check before you build up
Some new-build estates have rules in the deeds about boundaries, and planning rules can limit fence height. Check both before you order taller boards.
Ground on a new plot is often compacted builders' fill. Posts set in post mix need a proper hole, so allow for digging through it.
More privacy
Taller boards on a full closeboard run, with longer posts to suit.
Beds on bare ground
Sleeper raised beds let you bring in good soil above poor fill.
Side gate
A pair of 6x6 gate posts to hang a side gate.

Questions
Can I replace the fence the developer put up?
That depends on who owns the boundary and what the deeds say. Check before taking any fence down.
