Fencing timber for bigger gardens and longer boundaries
A detached house can mean boundaries on three sides, a drive gate and runs that catch the weather. The order is bigger, and the post choice matters more.
Go heavier where it's exposed
On a boundary open to the wind, 4x4 posts and 4x2 rails give the fence more backbone. Use 4x4s at corners and ends even if the rest of the run is 4x3.
For a gate on the drive, a 6x6 gate post each side gives the hinges something solid to fix to.
